The Possessive

The possessives: 's, ', ... of ...

• Use: when you want to say that something belongs to someone

• Three ways to do it:
• 1. noun + 's: It is Jane's book
  
• 2. noun + ': Your parents' opinion is important.
  
•  3. ... of ... : He scored the first point of the match.
  

1: 's

• Na zelfstandige naamwoorden die over mensen of dieren gaan (enkelvoud). My brother's book is on the table.
  

• Na zelfstandige naamwoorden die over mensen of dieren gaan in het meervoud die niet eindigen op -s. We must respect people's rights.
  
• Eigen namen, zelfs als ze op -s eindigen. It is Tess's book.
  

• Winkels: We are going to the baker's.

•  Wanneer een meervoudsvorm van het zelf. nw. wel eindigt op -s.
