We do not know 1. WHEN exactly or 2. it is NOT important.

If we WANT to say WHEN something happened,
we use PAST SIMPLE.
Also use PAST SIMPLE in questions with "WHEN".

Often used: SINCE + FOR

Present Perfect or the Past Simple?

Extra Grammar Notes:
The past simple is used for finished actions in the past we know when it happened. I went to London last Christmas
The present perfect is used for experiences and unfinished time. I've been to London three times
