Future
Next weekend, Liam is going to visit his grandparents in the countryside. He will help them with their garden and take long walks in the forest. His grandmother will bake his favorite cookies, and he is going to bring some home. Shall we go on a picnic while I’m there? he wonders. He knows it will be a great trip.

When we talk about the future we usually mention either 'Will' , 'Shall' or 'to be going to'. But when do we use each?

Slide 7 - Tekstslide

To be going to gebruik je ...
> I'm going to be a doctor.
> We are going to Spain this summer.

> It's 8.15 already. I'm going to be late for class.
> The ground is wet, so the street is going to be slippery.

Slide 8 - Tekstslide

Aside from 'going to' we can also use 'will'' and 'shall' to refer to the future.
We use will for decisions we make at the moment:
  • "I’m hungry. I will order a pizza."
  • "The phone is ringing. I will answer it."
  • "I forgot to send that email. I will do it right now."

How?
Affirmative/postive = Will/ 'll + whole verb (ww).   >  I'll have a cup of tea.
Negation/negative= will not/ won't + whole verb    > I won't go to her party.
Interrogative/quesiton= Will + person + whole verb   > Will they win the match?

Slide 9 - Tekstslide

Aside from 'going to' we can also use 'will'' and 'shall' to refer to the future.
We use 'shall' for questions. But we only use it when talking about 'I' or 'we'.
How? Use shall+ I/we + whole verb (ww)

Asking for an opinion:
> "Shall I bring some snacks to the party?"

Offering something:
> "Shall I help you with that?"

Suggesting something:
> "Shall we go for a walk?"

Slide 10 - Tekstslide

Aside from 'going to' we can also use 'will'' and 'shall' to refer to the future.
We also use 'will' for.....
Wish:
"I hope she will give me a great present.''

Assumption (Aanname):
"'He won't be on time. He's always late.''

Promise:
"I will always support you."

Request:
"Will you please pass me the salt?"

Prediction (Voorspelling):
"The team will win the match."

Slide 11 - Tekstslide

1. Liam is going to visit his grandparents in the countryside."
2. "He will help them with their garden and take long walks in the forest."
3. "Shall we go on a picnic while I’m there?"

- Will → Voor spontane beslissingen, voorspellingen zonder bewijs, en beloftes.
- Shall → Voor formele of beleefde voorstellen en soms in formeel Engels.
