  • History is a subject that researches how people lived in the past
  • Sources give us information about the past.
  • The past is divided into 10 time periods and 5 historical periods.

  • History tells you something about who you are.
  • History helps you to understand why the world around you is as it is.
  • History teaches you to think about what is true and what isn't.
  • History teaches you that people have different opinions and ideas.

event = something that happened in the past
timeline = list of events in chronological order
chronology = events in order of time
century = period of 100 years
decade = period of 10 years
BC = before the birth of Christ
AD = after the birth of Christ

Contents
Draw a timeline. Include at least five (1aht)/ seven (1at) events. 
Include your birthday and the day you started at Van der Capellen English Academy.
What do you need?
- A4 paper
- Pencils
- Ruler/ ‘geo triangle’
Draw a timeline
1) Start your timeline in the year 2010 and end in the present.
2) Use the following scale: each year is 1 centimeter. Mark each year with a small dot on the timeline.
3) Mark each decade with a longer vertical line and write down the year.
4) Add the events. Make sure the events are linked to the proper years on the timeline.
Advanced assignment
5) Include at least two (1aht)/ three (1at) more events that lasted several years and mark them on the timeline.
