Name a preposition in English

Prepositions 1

There are prepositions that are used to indicate where something is. (position)

Er zijn voorzetsels die gebruik worden om aan te geven waar iets is. (positie)

There are prepositions used to indicate when something happens. (time) 

Er zijn voorzetsels die gebruik worden om aan te geven wanneer iets gebuurt. (tijd)

What is the difference in meaning between 'in' and 'at' a building ?

1. There is no difference.
2. 'In' means in the building and 'at' in front of the building.
3. 'In' means your inside and 'at' means the general area.
4. 'At' means inside and 'in' means the general area

If you would like to describe the general location of where someone/something is, you should use “at.” 

For example, “Mary is at the school.” However, if you need to emphasize that someone/something is inside the building or area, you can use “in.” For instance, “Mary is in the school.”

Prepositions 4

Geven aan dat je in de richting van iets beweegt:

I walk to school every morning. 

The dog ran after the cat.

The bus is driving towards the city centre.

To = Naar

After = Achterna

Towards = naar...toe

Indicate that you are moving away from something:

They told us to move away from the fire.

Can you take the DVD out of the computer?

I jumped off my bike after the accident

Out of = uit

Off = van...af

Indicate that you are moving past something:

Don't walk across the street when the light is red.

We walked around the lake to get to the other side.

The plane flew over our city.

I walked past your house this morning.

The bird flew through my room.

Geven aan dat jij je ergens voorbij beweegt:

Across = naar de overkant

Around = om...heen

Over= overheen

Past = voorbij

Through = door

prepositions of direction:

• They cycled along the river for hours. 
• She always walks alongside her mother.
• Rain is pouring down from the sky. 
• He disappeared into the crowd of people.
• I climbed onto the stage to sing a song.
• The bird flew round my head.
• You have to climb up  the stairs. 

Overige veelgebruikte prepositions of direction:

Along= langs

Alongside= gelijk op met

Down= naar beneden

Into= in

Onto= op

Round= rond

Up= omhoog
