Learning goals:
At the end of class, you can:
1. Place a word in the lexical category it belongs to (noun, verb, adverb, adjective, proposition), and name its features (plurality, tense, root, prefix/suffix, place in a sentence).
2. Give a translation of each of the fourteen words.

Reading a Short Text:
If I am ever asked to give our great fantasy-nerds a suggestion, it would be to visit “Kasteel de Haar” in Haarzuilens in April. Since 1994, the imposing monument with its grand gardens annually transforms into the fantasy kingdom Elfia. During this time, for one weekend, you can encounter all kinds of creatures from ogres to fairies as one of the requirements to visit Elfia is to come in disguise. A visit will, therefore, not only enhance your cosplay-skills, it will also give you the opportunity to meet other like-minded people and have a drink or two.

Reading a Short Text:
All sorts of shops with fascinating memorabilia are sold by kind entrepreneurs who want nothing more than to team up with new faces and lucrative ideas. Of course, they would also like to sell their complete stock, but who is to say that both things need to be mutually exclusive. So, whether they get tons of customers or simply enjoy their time talking the day away, these businessmen and women rarely get angry. So, go get your sowing-machine out, make yourself a costume and sample the ambiance of Elfia on the 23rd and 24th of April 2022. There will be many others who will flock to this event, so do not forget to buy your tickets now before they are all gone!

  • Now, search the internet/Google to find the answers to the features you have not yet named or are unsure about.
  • If you want to know the root of a word, you can google for etymology (= history of a word) and then the word (e.g., etymology of annually = annu, (Latin) means "year")
