The Zero Conditional
If/when + subject + Present Simple , subject + Present Simple
Facts
If you heat ice, it melts
Rules
When the traffic light is red, drivers must stop
Habits/routines
If it is sunny, I ride my bike to work.

The First Conditional
if/when + subject + Present Simple , subject + will/may/can/could/should + verb
Describing a possible future situation with a probable result (it will most likely happen)

If it rains, I will watch a movie
If you are in town tomorrow, you could come and see me.
If you do not like the apartment, you should not live there.

The Second Conditional
if + subject + Past Simple , subject + would/could/might + verb
For unlikely or unreal situations in the present or future.

If I had more money, I would move to the country.
If she did not have children, she would travel more.
If the town square was bigger, we could have more concerts.

The Third Conditional
if + subject + Past Perfect , subject + would/wouldn't have + past participle 
OR
if + subject + Past Perfect , subject + might/might not/could/couldn't have + part participle
Unreal situations in the past that didn't happen, with an unreal result.

If they had stayed in the country, they wouldn't have found work.
If it had snowed, it might have caused terrible traffic problems.
If he had not been late, he wouldn't have lost his job.

Exercise 5 p. 52
Look at exercise 5 on page 52, you are going to do a similar thing. 
Each group will receive a paper, this is where you will write your story on.
Your story starts where the story in exercise 5 ends.
The handout will be passed from student to student, each adding a new conditional sentence. At the end of this exercise, a few stories will be read aloud.
