During our last lessons we talked about closed questions

Today I want to talk to you about asking OPEN questions

also known as WH words

even kort toelichten dat we zoeken naar woorden die in het Nederlands bekend staan als de 5 w en h woorden/ de vraagwoorden waarop je een open antwoord krijgt

in today's lesson

• We will be learning about WH words (20 minutes)
• We will learn how to use them (20 minutes)
• We will use them to get the information we need (FUN & GAMES) (20 minutes)

Can you give me more WH (question) words?

There are 9 main forms of the WH words.

First of all, there are 8 who actually start with WH:

* who

*what

*why

*where

* when

* which

* whose

* whom

hierbij opmerken dat WHOM een woord is wat zij erg weinig zullen gebruiken op A2, dus die is minder belangrijk

Then there is one that has a lot of different forms and doesn't even start with WH:

*how (+measurement)

if we use how, we are looking for a way or a degree 

How did it happen?

How damaged is the car?

quantifiers zijn woorden die vroegen naar een maat, eenheid of hoeveelheid

How + Measurement

why does this one have many forms? because we are looking for a number:

how much/many

how long

how come

how far

how old

etc.

Hierbij dient opgemerkt, dat hier een volgende les meer aandacht aan besteed zal worden. Anders wordt het teveel informatie voor de studenten om in 1 keer te verwerken. Wel vind ik het van belang dat ze alvast benoemt worden.

GAME TIME

This game has 6 simple rules:

1.  You must use a WH question!

2. After each question, the person who asked the question may take a guess.

3. You score a point if you guess correctly.

4. You may give a different answer compared to your card, as long as it is correct.

5. If you don't know the answer you must answer: I don't know!

6. After every correct guess, the cards go to the next person.

How does it work? 

• Let's play one as an example!

• Now try it yourselves in your group!
