Nursery school and Nursery class?
The feedback from the topic test last week highlighted a key area which needed recapping.
Nursery school vs Nursery Class
A Nursery class is usually part of a primary school and will typically be lead by a nursery teacher. This type of nursery is term time only and normally children in a nursery class will move on to the attached primary school.

A Nursery school generally functions the same as a nursery class but maintained nursery schools are not typically part of a primary school. Nursery schools can be Maintained or independent.

Occupational roles in Education

The Early Years practitioner is a level 2 qualified practitioner who will work along side a level 3 Early Years Educator. The Early Years practitioner generally has a role in supporting care routines, observations, record keeping, promoting play and learning. Limitations would be they can not administrate medicine or become a room leader / manager without a level 3.

The Early Years Educator (EYE) is a level 3 qualified member of staff and can work as part of the workforce, they may choose to take a leadership role such as room leader. The EYE will take an active role in planning, talking with parents (parents evening), will be able to conduct first aid (valid certificate required).

Occupational roles in Education
Teacher / Lecturer
They both has similar responsibilities, the title depends on the age range taught and where they are being taught. Both roles will require delivering, planning and learning creating a suitable educational programme.
QTS - Qualified teacher status is required or PGCE - Post graduate certificate in Education.

A Lecturer is likely to teach in further education and higher education, could be A - Levels, T - Levels or any vocational qualification. Lecturers need up to date knowledge of the subject area. For example all Early Years Staff head in to an Early Years provision in the summer. This is known as industry updating.
