Objective and Subjective News
There is a difference between objective and subjective news:
Objective news focuses on facts and makes it clear when something is an opinion. It uses framing to show the news in a clear way.
Subjective newsis often based on personal opinions
and interpretations (interpretaties). It uses framing to get more viewers and can ‘sensationalise’ topics. Subjective news can be more unreliablebecause it focuses more on sensation than on facts.
Slide 5 - Tekstslide
Ask yourself the following questions to find out whether a news item is objective or
subjective:
– Does the news channel usually show objective or sensational news?
– Is the information that is shown reliable? Do other news channels show the same information?
– What is the effect of framing on the news item?
