Guessing the meaning of unknown words 
Whenever you are reading a text / book or watching a film (or listening to a person from an English-speaking country), you'll try to make sense of what someone is saying. This is how our brain works, our brain always wants to make sense of what is being said. That's why our brain always subconsciously looks for extra information when we hear something that we don't immediately understand.

- He was (exasperated) after sitting on the plane with the child that had been crying non-stop. He had to listen to calming music when he arrived at his hotel.
-It was a very (dreary) story. I nearly fell asleep because it was so incredibly boring.
