Direct vs indirect speech
Hoe maak je de indirecte rede? 

Je kijkt steeds naar de werkwoorden in de zin van de directe rede. Deze zet je vervolgens allemaal steeds één stapje terug in de tijd. 

Je kijkt naar persoonlijke voornaamwoorden. In de indirecte rede verandert 'I' vaak naar 'he/she/it'.

Hoe verander je de werkwoorden?

present simple --> past simple (bijv. work --> worked, do --> did) 
present continuous --> past continuous (bijv. is listening --> was listening)
present perfect --> past perfect (bijv. have seen --> had seen)
! past simple --> past perfect (bijv. worked --> had worked)

They said: 'We don't agree.'   --> They said they didn't agree. 

She said: 'I was in New York last year.' --> She said she had been in New York last year. 

He says: 'I have been fired.' --> He said he had been fired.

When making passives follow these steps:
step 1: identify the verb  
step 2: determine the grammatical tense 
step 3: identify the direct object 
step 4: change sentence into passive 
             - Turn the direct object into the subject
             - Change the verb form from active to passive
