The past tense is verb tense used for a past activity (jumped) or a past state of being. (was) 

Past Simple

I study really hard. 

I studied really hard last night. 

Rule: verb (irregular verbs)  + ed

irregular verbs 

I ... to school yesterday. (walk)

1. walking
2. walked
3. walk
4. was walking

My mom ... pancakes this morning. (eat)

1. eated
2. has eat
3. eaten
4. ate

Past continous 

I am studying really hard. 

I was studying really hard, when the bell rang. 

Rule: was/were + past participle (verb + ing)

Use: past continous

She ... a sandwich. (eat)

1. ate
2. was ateing
3. was eating
4. is eating

The moon ... brightly that afternoon. (glow)

1. was glowing
2. glowed
3. is glowing
4. has glowed
