  • 1963: Martin started a big campaign in Birmingham Alabama

  • 1963: King and other leaders of the Civil Rights Movement organized a huge parade for equal rights in Washington, D.C
Result:  
  • Pressure on the presidential administration of President Lyndon B. Johnson 
  • Encouraging the president to push for civil rights laws to pass through Congress and become recognized on a national level.

  • Providing leadership in the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955 
  • Being instrumental in establishing the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) in 1957
  • Delivering his famous "I Have a Dream" speech in 1963
  • King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 and is remembered each year on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a U.S. federal holiday since 1986.
