1. A number of verbs automatically followed by
to+verb:
intend, mean, want, seem try, arrange etc. (see p.149)
e.g. I try to put on my new jeans
2. Sometimes verbs are followed by -ing form:
admit, give up, (don't) mind, enjoy etc. (see p.149)
e.g. I enjoy watching romantic comedies
3. Some verbs can be followed by both to+verb and ing-form but the meaning is different
- we stopped having lunch (we stopped a habit of having lunch)
- we stopped to have lunch (we stopped what we where doing and had lunch) -
