Discovering Smart Homes: Designing an Interactive House

Learning Objective

At the end of the lesson, you will understand the concept of a smart home, and be able to design and implement interactive elements for a smart home.

What is a Smart Home?

A smart home is a residence that uses internet-connected devices to enable the remote monitoring and management of appliances and systems.

Interactive Task 1: Brainstorming

Students will brainstorm and list potential interactive elements that could be incorporated into a smart home, such as automated lighting, security systems, or climate control.

Interactive Task 2: Designing the Smart Home

In groups, students will design a floor plan for a smart home, identifying where interactive elements will be placed and how they will function.

Interactive Task 3: Creating a Mock Interface

Using digital tools or paper, students will create a mock interface for controlling the interactive elements in their smart home design.

Interactive Task 4: Presentation

Each group will present their smart home design and interface, explaining the rationale behind their choices and the benefits of their design.

Reflection and Evaluation

Students will reflect on the challenges and successes of designing a smart home, and evaluate their own and their peers' designs.

Assessment

Students will be assessed on their participation in the interactive tasks, the quality of their smart home design, and their reflections.
