Passive sentences

After this lesson

You know how to fill in the right passive structures when an active sentence has been given first. 

Like this: 

John has sent a postcard to Mary. 

Mary .... (to send) a postcard by John. 

• Mary has been sent a postcard by John.

What is the difference? 

A: Mila punches Thijmen in his face. 

P: Thijmen is punched in his face by Mila. 

A: Noah paints the wall. 

P: The wall is painted by Noah. 

How to make it?

TT: am/are/is                      Let op: being (bij continuous) 

VT: was/were

VD: been

Hele ww: be

Voltooid deelwoord: ww+ed/3de rijtje

He is taken to hospital.

The books were read by the students.

The dog will be walked by his owner at 11AM.

Hoe krijgen jullie het op de toets? 

Zo: 

Actieve zin: My grandfather built this house in 1943. 

Passieve zin: This house ... by my grandfather in 1943. 

• This house was built by my grandfather in 1943. 

A: John eats mango every day.
P: Mango ... (to eat) every day by John.

A: The police arrested the thug yesterday.
P: The thug ... (to arrest) by the police yesterday.

A: They give the prize to the best player.
B: The prize ... (to give) to the best player.

A: Justin Beacher has taught this singer.
B: This singer ... (to teach) by Justin Bieber.

A: The mayor will open the shop next week.
P: The shop ... (to open) by the mayor next week.

A: The workers are building the bridge at the moment.
