The left hand side of the venn diagram will be Jonas's world. 

The right hand side of the venn diagram will show your world. 

The common aspects are in the middle.

Why do you think some people think The Giver is science fiction?

Why are there so many rules in Jonas's world?

What is good about this world?

There are hints that everything is not what it seems in this world - what are they?

 Write down the definitions in your journal.

Make a list in your journal as you watch.

Why? 

Utopia vs Dystopia

Dystopia: an imagined world or society in which people lead wretched, dehumanized, fearful lives. 

Utopia: an imagined place of ideal perfection especially in laws, government, and social conditions.

Divide your groups into 2. 

One half of the group is 

Team Utopia

and the other half is

Team Dystopia. 

You have 5 minutes in which to convince the other half of your group that Jonas is living in your world, and not theirs. 

After 5 mins, it's the other half of your group's turn to convince you.
