The Renaissance was a period of new cultures, artists, politics and economic. People also call it the rebirth that is following the Middle Ages. At Renaissance was a rediscovery of classical literature and art. The Renaissance started at the end of the Middle Ages, right before the rebirth, were the dark ages. In that era where a lot of wars, ignorance, famine and pandemics, also known as the dark death. That is why a lot of people where really happy and grateful for the rebirth, and for the new literature.

De renaissance was dus tussen de 14e en 16e in deze tijd werd er vooral heel veel poetry en literatuur geschreven. Shakespeare leefde natuurlijk ook in deze tijd en hij is heel beroemd geworden met al zijn stukken en vooral ook de schrijfstijl die hij gebruikte. Vooral de sonnetten waren in deze tijd heel erg populair, deze stijl is een gedicht met 14 regels begon in Italië maar verspreidde zich snel door Europa. Ook Shakespeare maakte veel sonnetten.
In de Italiaanse sonnetten maken ze alles heel mooi van mijn vrouw is echt een engel en super mooi maar Shakespeare zegt meer van ja mijn vrouw was eigenlijk helemaal niet zo mooi, maar we houden we van elkaar en dat is het belangrijkste. Shakespeare wilde dus meer het echte in zijn gedichten vertellen want hij zei ook van ja je kan ook helemaal niet zo mooi zijn als een engel.

In the time of the Renaissance, religion and faith still had an important role in literature, but the main genres were poetry and drama. Comedies and satires did still exist. Poetry was one of the most valued forms of literature. The most used poetic forms were lyric, tragedy, elegy or pastoral. Pastoral literature is a genre that has both prose and poetry. It is mainly about the natural world and the human relationship to nature. It is painted in an idyllic (beautiful, peaceful) light. The poets wanted to capture the beauty in de modern world. William Shakespeare was a very famous writer/poet. He dominated the drama arena during the Renaissance.

The renaissance is a period focused on the classical antiquity (de klassieke oudheid). This is because it is the time period after the middle ages, they saw the middle ages as this dark period between the classical antiquity and the current age. Therefor they idolised the classical antiquity again. In the renaissance they focused a lot on the human as an individual. With this, also scientific knowledge and intellectual development became a huge part of society and therefor had a big influence on the literature.
People began thinking for themselves, and not only assuming thing were the way they were because of god.

Literature was created during the Medieval period, most of the things in that time were about religion and faith in the future. During the Renaissance a lot of people thought that the Medieval period was an period of cultural decline. They wanted to bring the culture back.

Giovanni was born on June 16, 1313, in Florence, Italie. He was a writer, poet and a correspondent of Petrarch. Petrarch was some kind of poetry in the early ages of the Renaissance. He was also an important Renaissance Humanist, this was a revival in studies of classical antiquity, like history, philosophy, the Greek and Latin literature. A lot of scholars think of him as the greatest European writer of that time. Giovanni died on December 21, 1375, also in Florence.

The most known work of Giovanni Boccaccio is the Decameron. This is a frame story with a hundred stories. A frame story is are multiple stories within one big story . This book had a big impact on the Italian prose literature. And until this day it is still one of the most important works out of the literature world.
The Decameron is a frame story about seven young woman and three young man, they decide to leave the busy Florence and withdraw on the countryside of Tuscany. To enjoy themselves by telling each other stories. These stories are written In the book, they differ from dramatic and deep to light and comical.

Shakespeare lived in England, Stratford-upon-Avon. In that time it was usual that 3 days after their birth to baptised your child, so he was probably born on April 23 1564. And he died on April 23 1616. His most famous work was Romeo and Juliet. The story was created by several retellings of a 1476 story by Masuccio Salernitano, Mariotto and Gianozza. From its first performance around 1596 and the earliest editions (1597, 1599), Romeo and Juliet has remained popular with audiences because it deals with a subject with enduring appeal: romantic love.
Romeo and Juliet is a play and a tragedy. Some interesting facts about Shakespeare is that, during his lifetime, William Shakespeare wrote about 37 plays for the theater and more than 150 poems. Shakespeare married Anna Hathaway when he was 18 years old. And he actually led a double life. In the 17th century, he became a famous playwright in London, and in his hometown of Stratford, he was a businessman and property owner.
