How do we form the imperative?

We gebruiken de stam van een werkwoord, zonder 'to' ervoor.

To walk ==> walk

• *noun = The house, an apple, etc...
• pronoun = you / yours, they / theirs, etc...

Example:

• Come and sit over here = kom en zit hier 
• Tell me again                      = zeg het nog eens
• Show me...                           = laat me het zien

How do we form a negative imperative?

We zetten 'don't' voor de stam van een werkwoord. Ook dan zonder 'to'

• Come and sit over here  --> Don't come and sit over here
• Tell me again                       --> Don't tell me again
• Show me                               --> Don't show me

When do we use imperatives?

1. To give orders or commands
   Bevel         
2. to give warnings
   waarschuwing
3. to give advice or make suggestions 
   advies of suggesties
4. *To give directions
   De weg wijzen

Examples

1. Work quietly. (a teacher)
   Fetch! (talking to a dog)
2. Watch out! (object incoming!)
   Get out now! (sibling walking in...)
3. Forget about him/ her!
   Buy the yellow one!
4. Turn left at the end of the street
   Walk along the street.
