Linux is open-source operating system. This means that anyone is free to use it and change it. Linux is used for mobile devices as well as laptops and desktops.

Functions of an Operating System

• File Management: Helps you create, change, delete, and access files and folders.
  

• Memory Management: Gives memory space for different processes and makes sure to free it up when it is no longer needed.
  

• Process Management: Controls the order in which different processes run on the computer.
  

• Security: Protects your computer from harmful attacks using antivirus software and firewalls.
  

Functions of an Operating System

• Device Management: Manages devices like keyboards, printers, and USB ports.
  

• Resource Management: Manages resources like CPU time, memory, and input/output devices.
  

• Multitasking: Allows users to run many programs at the same time.
  

• An OS also provides a user interface, simplifies software complexity, and monitors user programs to avoid errors.
