In this lesson, Ss learn adjectives and modifiers. The context is a video of street interviews where people talk about last weekend. Ss then do a speaking activity, where they practise talking about last weekend. The lesson ends with a writing activity, where Ss write an email about a recent activity.

Today's class

Listening to people talking about last weekend.

Learn how to use adjectives and modifiers.

Adjectives = bijvoeglijk naamwoorden.

Modifiers = bijwoorden die de bijvoeglijk naamwoorden versterken (intensifier) of afzwakken (qualifier).

The city is crowded. (adjective)

The city is very crowded. (intensifier)

The city is a bit crowded. (qualifier)

Write down in English at least 5 weekend activities.

Add an adjective to the activities.

Examples:

go shopping - boring

go to a museum - interesting

visit grandparents - fun

Words to remember:

football / soccer

Adjectives:

-ed = feeling

-ing = cause of the feeling

I'm bored because the lesson is boring.

When did you get home?

Use 3 qualifiers/modifiers.

 Report back to class. Who had the most interesting weekend? Why?

Work in pairs. Have a conversation to plan an ideal weekend.

 Who has the best idea for an ideal weekend?

Put Ss in pairs and ask them to plan an ideal weekend. Write the following prompts on the board: When? Where? Who with? What do? to help Ss come up with ideas as they plan. When they have finished, ask Ss to share their ideas with the class and vote for the best one.

How many speakers enjoyed ALL of their weekend?

What kind of words did those people use?

Q2: What did you do?

How many speakers did something outdoors? What did they do?

Ss watch the first part of the video, in which people answer Q1, and count how many speakers enjoyed all of their weekend.

Play the second part of the video for Ss to count how many people did something outdoors.
