Creative Writing: Describing a Person

Lesson Plan

Level: B1 (Intermediate)

Duration: 45 minutes

Objective: Describing a person in correct English

This class will help prep you for your Writing Test on Thursday

Process:

• Use the final number of your student number to find out who you have to write about.
  Odd numner: write about the person sitting next to you, 
  even number: write about the person sitting in front of or behind you.
  
  
• Write down keywords about this person first and group them together: appearance, personality, your relationship with this person

Creative Prompt:

Paragraph 1: Say who the person is and how you know him/her.

Paragraph 2: Write about the person’s physical appearance.

Paragraph 3: Write about this person’s personality.

Paragraph 4: Sum up your feelings about this person.

Write around 200 - 250 words.

Check!

Punctuation: capital letters, full stops in the right places, paragraphs!

Grammar: word order, verb forms, adjectives/adverbs, past perfect and future

Vocabulary: prepositions, avoid very/really (if possible), use fancy words

Flow: avoid unnecessary repetitions (don't start sentences with the same words!), variety in lenth of sentences, try to keep it interesting for your reader

Spelling:  were vs where, there vs their vs they're, -ful vs full, -s vs 's

Sharing = Caring

Read your story to your classmate, who will give you feedback on:

• Creativity
• Grammar 
• Vocabulary
• Structure

After that, change roles.
