Text types

 A few examples of 

different text types

The vast majority can be split into 2 broad categories. 

Two main categories:

Some texts sit in both camps e.g., literary nonfiction, or creative nonfiction.

Factual texts you may find in a CITO final exam

literary texts you may find in a CITO final exam

-narrative

tale, short story or an excerpt from a novel

(from different genres: science fiction, suspense, romantic, horror, dystopian and more)

-part of a- biography

Once more, remember: some texts sit in both camps e.g., literary nonfiction, or creative nonfiction.

Cito will focus on these 4 text purposes: 

• Informative – Writing in which author’s purpose is to inform or explain the subject to the reader.
  
• Persuasive – Writing that states the opinion of the writer and attempts to influence the reader.
  
• Expressive- The writer wants to express his or her feelings, emotions (diary, poem etc.)
• Narrative - The writer tells a story -fact or fiction- to entertain its reader
