Question tags: what are they?
Use: Question tags are added to a sentence. We use them to ask for things, agreement or new information.
In Dutch, we don't really have question tags, but we use the word "toch?"
Examples:
- Wij hebben een afspraak om 3 uur, toch?
- Hij woont hier nog, toch?
- Zij gaan morgen verhuizen, toch?

Use: Question tags are added to a sentence. We use them to ask for things, agreement or new information.
Examples in English:
> You are William, aren't you?
> You can play the guitar, can't you?
> He swims very well, doesn't he?

Question tags: how do you make one?
We make the tag by paying attention to a few things in the sentence:
Step 1. Is the sentence negative < > positive?
Examples:
> Positive statement = negative tag
- You haven't seen this film, have you?
> Negative statement = positive tag
- You have seen this film, haven't you?

Step 2. The subject (= onderwerp) in the sentence remains the same:
Example:
>You haven't seen this film, have you?

Step 3. (Modal) helping verbs used in the sentence are always automatically used in the tag. These verbs are: to be (is/am/are/was/were), to have (have/has/had), can, could, would, should, will
Example: You can't sing, can you?
Step 4. If the sentence doesn't have a helping verb, we use helping verb to do in the tag (do/don't, does/doesn't, did/didn't)
Example: You sing, don't you?
