Present perfect or present simple?

I’ve paid my dues time after time.

I’ve done my sentence but committed no crime.

And bad mistakes ‒I’ve made a few.

I’ve had my share of sand kicked in my face but I’ve come through.

And I need to go on and on, and on, and on

We are the champions, my friends,

And we’ll keep on fighting ’til the end.

Present simple: regelmatigheid, gewoonte, rooster, feiten

How to form it?

Present perfect: Iets is in het verleden begonnen en gaat nog door of heeft nog duidelijk effect op het heden.

 Present Perfect: have/has + voltooid deelwoord 

(werkwoord+ed of 3e rijtje onregelmatige werkwoorden)

Veel voorkomende signaalwoorden bij de present perfect: 

for, yet, ever, never, just, since, so far, lately, all day/week etc, how long

Gerund

Werkwoord - ing vorm = zelfstandig gebruikt

Compare:

I am singing in a band this Friday -  Singing in a band is my hobby

Gerund

- na (deel van het) onderwerp

- na werkwoorden als 'like', 'love', 'hate' (UK)

- na 'start', 'stop', 'keep on'

- na voorzetsels (not 'to')

- na 'to be worth', 'to look forward to'

Black story

Philip Diallo took a seat at the bar and asked the barkeeper for a glass of water. After giving Philip his water, the barkeeper pulled out a gun and pointed it at the Philip's head. Philip never drank his glass of water. He thanked the barkeeper and left.

Philip had the hiccups. He ordered some water to try get rid of his hiccups. The barkeeper noticed him hiccuping and tried to frighten him by pointing a gun at his head. The surprise and shock made Philip forget about his hiccups so he no longer needed the water.

Clues

1. He wasn't particulary thirsty

2. The gun was real

3. The barkeeper had no intention of killing Philip

4. Philip had the hiccups
