Ez az én macskám. - This is my cat. (ragoztam a macskát!!)

Ez a macska az enyém. - This cat is mine. (nem ragoztam a macskát!!)

Ezek a macskák az enyémek. - These cats are mine. (nem ragoztam a macskákat)

Ez az én tollam. - This is my pen.

Ez a toll az enyém. - This pen is mine.

Tulajdonképpen leegyszerűsítve az a szabály, hogy ha a birtokba vagyis jelen esetben a toll szóba beleragozok magyarul, lesz belőle tollam, az angolul my pen. Ha nem ragozom a toll szót, akkor pedig mine az angolban.

 Egy rendhagyó eset van: ha az alany T/1 lenne (we), akkor “let’s”-szel kezdünk:
