betekent 'zou kunnen'

Ex: It could be a problem --> Het zou een probleem kunnen zijn.

Ex: I couldn't finish it. --> Ik kon het niet afmaken

betekent 'kunnen/in staat zijn'

Ex: He isn't able to write, he broke his arm. --> Hij is niet in staat om te schrijven, hij heeft zijn arm gebroken.

betekent 'mogen/toestemming hebben'

Ex: Are you allowed to stay up late? --> Mag jij tot laat opblijven?
