Don't know the name? --> Dear Sir/Madam,

                                                         Dear Madam,

                                                         Dear Sir,

Know the name? --> title (Mr, Mrs, Miss or Ms, Dr, etc.) and the family name

Mrs=married / Miss=unmarried / Ms=unknown married or not

Body formal letter

KISS - keep it short and simple

Break your message down into paragraphs (alinea's)

1. Why are you writing? What is the topic (onderwerp)?
   
2. What do you want the reader to do/know?
3. Closing = conclusion/summary/ suggest possible follow-up 

Try to keep your sentences (zinnen) readable.

Closing formal letter/email

Know the name?              -->  Yours sincerely, 

Don't know the name?  -->  Yours faithfully,

Know the person?           -->  Kind regards,
