Valentine's Day: Did you know?
On 14 February Valentine's Day is celebrated in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Australia.
People give candy, flowers, gifts and cards to loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. The history of this day is a mystery. Some people say that Valentine was a Catholic saint. The only things we know for sure is that it is fun to celebrate Valentine's Day and that it is about love!
In the United Kingdom, Valentine's Day began to be celebrated around the seventeenth century. Americans also began exchanging hand-made Valentine cards in the early 1700s.
The Greeting Card Association says that about one billion Valentine cards are sent each year. This makes Valentine's Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. About 2.6 billion cards are sent for Christmas.
