Reproduction in animals
Most animals > Sexual reproduction
For example:
Mammals: Live birth
Birds: Laying eggs
Some animals > Asexual reproduction
For example:
Some lizards: parthenogenesis
Reproduction in which two parents are needed.
Their offspring has a mix of their DNA
Reproduction in which only 1 parent is needed.
Their offspring has a copy of their DNA
This is just an example! you don't need to know this!
Female lizard lays eggs that have not been fertilized by a male lizard
Slide 11 - Tekstslide
Native and exotic
Animals can be native or exotic (sometimes both)
Native = It normally lives in the area it is found in
Example: the mallard is native to the Netherlands
Exotic = It originally doesn't belong in the area it lives in
Example: The rabbit is an exotic, it didn't originally live in the Netherlands
Sometimes exotics are counted as native animals, the rabbit is a good example of this.
Invasive exotic = It also creates problems in that area
Mallard
Slide 12 - Tekstslide
Camouflage
Mimicry
having colours that make you blend into the surroundings
Imitating other objects or organisms
A hoverfly imates a wasp.
It can't sting but other animals will think it can and leave it alone.
A leaf insect looks like a leaf.
Other animals don't notice it and leave it alone
