Om aan te geven dat er iets op een bepaald moment in het verleden aan de gang was:

I was watching Friends on Netflix.

They were dancing during the intro.

Past Continuous

Je maakt het zo:

Was / were + werkwoord + ing

I was watching.

Was = I, he, she, it

Were = you, we, they 

Past Continuous

Vaak in combinatie met een bijzin die met when begint:

 

I was talking when he walked inside.

Walked is past simple.

Past Continuous

(1) = Past Continuous

(2) = Past Simple 

I (1) was reading a book when the telephone (2) rang. 

Past Continuous

Als 2 dingen tegelijk aan de gang waren in het verleden, gebruik je ook 2 keer de Past Continuous met while er tussen:

She was reading a book while they were walking the dog.
