Used to

We use used to to talk about something that used to be the case, but is no longer the case.

The formula for this is: subject + used to + infinitive

• John and Vicky used to be married.
• I used to have two dogs.
• She used to live in London.
• When I was 6 years old I used to swim twice a week.

Get used to / Be used to

Watch out: 'Get used to' and 'be used to' do not mean the same as 'used to' as just discussed.

Be used to = to be used to

I am used to my new house already.

or

I don't like my new house, I need to get used to it.
