The Victoria Falls is a waterfall on the

 Zambezi River in Africa.

  
It is on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The waterfall was named after the British monarch, Queen Victoria, by the explorer David Livingstone in 1855 but the local people still call it The Smoke That Thunders in their own Sotho language (Mosi-oa-Tunya).

The waterfall is 1,708m wide and some unique species of animals and plants are found there.

Its width of 1,708m and its height of 108m make it the world's largest sheet of falling water.

The plateau (an area of flat, high ground) of Victoria Falls, over which the Zambezi River flows, was formed during the Jurassic period, about 200 million years ago.
