Types of Apples

There are over 7,500 types of apples in the world, but the most common ones include Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Red Delicious, and Fuji.

Show pictures of each type of apple and ask students if they have ever tasted or heard of any of them before.

Nutritional Benefits

Apples are a great source of fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants. They can improve digestion, boost the immune system, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer.

Discuss the nutritional benefits of apples and ask students if they know of any other fruits or vegetables that have similar benefits.

Apple Fun Facts

Did you know that it takes about 36 apples to create one gallon of apple cider? Or that the heaviest apple ever recorded weighed over 4 pounds? Apples can also float on water because 25% of their volume is air!

Engage students with some fun facts about apples and ask if they have any interesting apple facts of their own to share.

Apple Taste Test

Have a taste test with different types of apples and ask students to identify each type by taste and appearance.

Bring in different types of apples for a taste test activity. Make sure to have enough apples for each student to try at least one of each type.

Apple Recipes

Apples can be used in a variety of recipes such as apple pie, apple sauce, and caramel apples. Have students share their favorite apple recipe and discuss the different ways apples can be cooked or baked.

Talk about the different ways apples can be used in cooking and baking. Ask students to share their favorite apple recipe and discuss how they would make it.
