Slide 2 - Tekstslide

Goals for today: 11/10-11/12
  •  Recall the 5 parameters of ASL (think back to your poster)
  • Understand what initialized signs are, when to use them, and how to identify them.
  • Sign basic color signs in ASL, identify color being signed, practice using colors in a sentence (likes/dislikes)
  • Identify the initialized signs within the color signs
  • Provide positive feedback to peers regarding signing color signs (Are they using the 5 parameters correctly and the initialized signs correctly)

Unit 2: Getting Started
How does this fit into the lesson?

Colors: When you are getting started to learn a language you typically learn the colors in that language. This fits under the objective: engage in basic conversation on a variety of topics. It will also help you in the next lesson when we learn classroom objects (how to describe them).

Initialized Signs: This fits under the objective: improve the familiarity with ASL grammar and structure.

Slide 4 - Tekstslide

Prior lesson:
We discussed the 5 parameters of ASL. You will use the 5 parameters when learning colors today. Make sure when we are learning each color you identify the 5 parameters of that sign in order to sign it correctly. Many of the colors have the same handshape, but may differ in the other parameters.
Do you remember the 5 parameters of ASL? Let's see what you remember!

2. Have one partner grab the following materials (color spinner, paper clip, 2 worksheets one for each partner). You will need a pencil for this too.
3. Take turns spinning the color spinner. One partner will spin it the other will sign it. Go back and forth until you complete the worksheet.
