Question tags

You’re really tired, aren’t you?

I’m being really mean, aren’t I?

He can’t hear me now, can he ?

She isn’t working now, is she?

Bovenstaande zinnen zijn voorbeelden van tags, korte zinnetjes die in het Nederlands iets aangeven als toch, nietwaar, hè?

Na een bevestigende (+) zin:

 She is tired…

  You are working…

komt een ontkennende (-) tag:

 ….isn’t she?

  ….aren’t you?

Na een ontkennende (-) zin:

 She isn’t tired…

  You aren’t working…

komt een bevestigende (+) tag:

 ….is she?

  ….are you?

Hi there, it’s Sharon, isn’t it?

Maar: als je geen (hulp) werkwoorden als to be, can en to have hebt, dan gebruik je het hulpwerkwoord to do:

You are studying English at a private language school attended by many international students. You are planning a surprise birthday party for a friend who has been feeling particularly sad and homesick.

Write to another classmate and invite him / her to the party. In your letter:
•explain the reason for the party
•give the date and time of the party
•suggest what the classmate could bring to the party.
