Present Simple

Things you do in your free time.

Last lesson we talked about how you spend your free time.

Look at these sentences.

- You often PLAY videogames in your free time.

- Some of you LIKE to go shopping in your free time.

- Maybe somebody HAS a pet?

When do we use the Present Simple?

Regular activities (often/usually/sometimes/never): 

 You often play video games in your free time.

Preferences (like/love/hate/prefer):

You like to go shopping in your free time.

States, permanent situations, facts:

Somebody has a pet.

What does the Present Simple look like?

The Present Simple is made by using the root (infinitive) of the verb.

I/You/We/They                  play                            have                              like      

  

She/He/It                          plays                             has                             likes

(root+s/+es)--------------------------------------------------------

Negative or question with the Present Simple:

To make a question or a negative you add a the verb 'to do'.

- You don't play videogames in your free time.

Do you play videogames in your free time?

- You don't like to go shopping in your free time.

Do you like to go shopping in your free time?

- Mike doesn't have a pet.

Does Mike have a pet?

Ryan ...... tv every evening.

Form a question:
Ryan watches tv every evening.

I ...... guitar.

Make the sentence negative:
I play guitar.

My teacher ........ coffee every morning.

Form a question:
My teacher drinks coffee every morning.

We ..... shopping every weekend.

Make the sentence negative:
We go shopping every weekend.
