Writing - Adjectives & Adverbs

Succes Criteria

• You can recognise adjectives and adverbs.
• You can explain why adjectives and adverbs are used in reviews.
• You can explain the difference between adjectives and adverbs.
• You can choose adjectives or adverbs to help voice your opinion.
• You can write a short review of something you own with the help of adjectives and adverbs. 

Adjectives

We use Adjectives to say something about a Noun. 

Examples:

• This is an awesome product!
• What I like best about my bike, is that it is green.
• I wouldn't go see it, it was a terrible film.

If you can answer the question: What kind of ....? You are dealing with an Adjective.

Adverbs

We use Adverbs to say something about Verbs, Adjectives and sometimes other Adverbs.

Examples:

• We calmly waited for 10 minutes, but still they didn't help us.
• Our new oven works wonderfully.
• The car doesn't drive very quickly.

Is you can asnwer the question: How does it .... ? You are dealing with an Adverb.

Activity

• Mark all the Adjectives and Adverbs you see in the reviews on the handout. Use a different colour for Adjectives and Adverbs.

• When you are done, discuss with your classmate if you both marked the same words.
• When you have discussed your findings, go to Its Learning for the follow-up activity.
• Make sure to turn it in before Wednesday next week!
