Economic crisis

• economic crisis is not over yet
• Ruud Lubbers (CDA) is prime minister 
• Cutting costs of the welfare state is one of his main policies

• The Cold War is raging still
• Lots of tension between East and West
• Demonstrations against installment of more missiles in the Netherlands

Computer technology slowly became more abundant in society: at home and in companies

Multicultural society, because of:

• Migrant workers (amongst them 'gastarbeiders', e.g. from Turkey and Marocco)
• People from former colonies (Indonesia, Surinam, Dutch Antilles)
• Refugees

• Gabbers
• Electronic music
• Large dance festivals
• No politics
• Xtc

• The lyrics are about Dutch society and in the videoclip, a lot of Dutch society/culture is shown.
• While watching the video, look for differences and similarities between the 1950s and 1990s in our country.
• Hint: look for cultural, social and economical topics to discuss
