In het Nederlands veranderd de woordvolgorde als je een bijzin toevoegt.  
In het Engels niet!

We hebben gewonnen. We waren erg goed. 
We hebben gewonnen omdat we erg goed waren. 

We have won. We were very good
We have won beacause we were very good.

Grammar 4 - Like and As
Like gebruik je als het erop lijkt, maar 't het niet is.

It smells like honey.
(but it is a flower, not honey)


As gebruik je als het net zoals iets anders is (dus gelijk). 

It rains a lot in Austria as it does in the Netherlands.
(het regent dus in beide landen veel)

Like en as worden gebruikt om een vergelijking te maken tussen twee mensen of dingen.

Je gebruikt like om een vergelijking te maken tussen - mensen, dieren en dingen. 

Je gebruikt het om aan te geven dat twee dingen (bijna) hetzelfde zijn of op elkaar lijken.

Na de volgende werkwoorden gebruik je vaak like:
to look - to sound - to taste - to smell - to feel
It feels like summer. 

It fits like a glove.

She acts like a queen. 

Her hair is brown like mine.

Je gebruikt as met een zelfstandig naamwoord als je praat over iemands rol of baan.

Als je in deze zinnen like zou gebruiken veranderd de betekenis naar net zoals, of
op dezelfde manier als. 




Like a parent I feel more should be done to protect our children. 
Net zoals een ouder, vind je dat.
I work like a teacher.
Ik werk zoals een docent dat doet.

Je kunt as ... as gebruiken om twee dingen te vergelijken. 
Dit kan ook met not as ... as




She is as tall as her mother. 

He is not as good in maths as I am.
Je gebruikt as in een bijzin om te zeggen dat je iets op een zelfde manier doet. Het betekent dan vaak zoals
As you already know, I am a real football fan. 

She reads in silence, as she does when studying.

Of om een zelfstandig naamwoord te vervangen: 
- na een bijvoeglijk naamwoord
- na which 
- na this, that, these en those
