What is Character Development?
A character develops (ontwikkeld zich) throughout a story. Those changes are called character development. Some key points bring about these developments:

  • A character's wants: "I want to stay up all night, because it's fun"
  • A character's needs: "I actually need to sleep, because I'm tired"
  • A character's strengths: Qualities (nice, funny, smart, etc..) OR they have a super power (flying, super strength) OR, special skill (great at knife throwing)
  • A character's weaknesses: Qualities (jealousy, mean, evil), OR they have a disability of some kind (can't walk), OR they stand out (not part of the crowd, different, etc...)
  • A character's look: might start off with long hair, then it gets chopped off by an angry woodsman later on in the story, or they lose an eye, etc...
  • A character's behavior: might start off as a mean character, but turns into a nicer character throughout the story
