Assignment: Historical events

Work in pairs. Each pair will be assigned with one of the historical events on the right. Use the internet to look up your event en answer the following questions:

Prehistoric period

• 700,000 BC: First people come to Britain
• 3.000 BC: New Stone Age, farming people arrive from Europe
• 21,000 BC: Bronze Age. Bronze weapons and tools. First villages
• 750 BC: Iron Age. Population about 150,000

Roman period

• 55 BC: Julius Ceasar first invades Britain.
  
• 50 BC: London founded
  
• 43 BC: Romans invade and Britain becomes part of the Roman Empire.
  
• 410 AD: The Romans withdraw from Britain

Anglo-Saxons and Vikings

• Anglo-Saxons (450): Northen Germany, Denmark and Northern Holland.
  
• Vikings (793): Norway, Denmark and Sweden.

Medieval times: 1066-1485

• 1707 England and Scotland officially united.

Georgian Britain (1714-1837)

• 1740-1744: George Anson sails around the world.
• 1780: Industrial Revolution begins.
• 1801: Act of Union created the UK.
• 1815: Battle of Waterloo

The American War of Independence

The Victorian Age (1837-1901)

• Industrial revolution, child labour, poverty, city slums.
