Goals
  •        I will identify a relevant local issue: what problems affect my local community?
  •        I will collect relevant information about this issue: what research methods can I use and what questions should I ask?
  •        I will evaluate data: what biases can I identify and how reliable are my sources?
  •        I will analyze information: what causes the problem and which consequences need to be considered when finding a suitable solution for this problem?
  •        I will organize my research in a graphic organizer: how can clearly communicate my research conclusions?

What is local perspective?
  • Practice research and writing skills
  • Required for your master's thesis in period 3
  • Passing your master's thesis is a prerequisite for transferring to class 4

What do you have to turn in at the end of the period?


  • Research document in word containing all research results
  • Cover page, table of contents, introduction, sources research, interview, questionnaire, analysis of results, conclusion, source list

How are we going to do this?
  • Each lesson we work on a part
  • You get explanation and time to work on that part in class
  • You have to hand in all your work in between classes
  • You will have to plan the interview and the questionnaire outside of class.
  • Make smart use of class time so you do not have to do much at home

Skills
  • LP will focus on using a variety of skills to research and find solutions to various social problems.
  • Social problems refer to various issues (e.g., unemployment, global warming, etc.) that affect people and their communities.
  • You “zoom in” on your local community. What is going on?

  • Sit in a group of 3 to 4 students
  • Try to put together as many students from the same region as possible
  • Start discussing what your local community is like and what problems exist here
  • Think, pair & share

  2. Describe what your local problem is that you will be researching this term.
  • This must be approved by me before you can proceed

  • Don't have an idea? Start researching! On the internet but also in your local community!!!
