Web 2.0
Web 2.0 is the second stage of internet usage in which the user both reads and publishes information. 

  • There are 3 characteristics of Web 2.0:
  1. Ease of access
  2. Social Networking
  3. Online communities developed around various content (Rosen, 2008).

  • Examples of Web 2.0 resources and tools include, but are not limited to: 
  1. Blogs
  2. Wikis
  3. Podcasting
  4. Social networking (Perrin, 2010).

Cyberlearning
Cyberlearning is the use of new technologies to create effective and engaging learning experiences. This type of project based learning is student-led. Students have the agency to experiment with new technology while they learn new material (MindShiftKQED, 2004).

Cyberlearning is important because it:
  1. Creates more opportunities for teachers to meet student needs
  2. Increases student engagement
  3. Helps students reach ISTE standards
  4. Aids students in becoming technologically literate

Note: I was not able to find information about cyberlearning in the assigned readings or module toolkit, so I found a reputable source on my own.
Desmos
Desmos is an online tool that allows users to interact with a variety of mathematical concepts visually. This tool facilitates deeper learning as students make connections between mathematical concepts.

In my geometry class:
Student homework would consist of 'scavenger hunts' in which they would be given a numbered list of angles, polygons, non-polygons, etc. They would have to create each item in one Desmos file, save it, and I would access the student files on my computer for grading. 
For example:
  1. Acute angle
  2. Line
  3. Ray

Kahoot
Kahoot is a game-based learning program that allows students to interact with class content on their phones. Kahoot activities help teachers assess student learning by collecting data on each students' progress in the class.

In my geometry class:
Students will participate in an entrance ticket activity at the beginning of each class. These activities will consist of previous class concepts and homework to reinforce content. The questions will be displayed for the entire class and students will answer the questions on their phones.
An example of a question could be:
  • A rectangle is always, sometimes, or never a parallelogram?
  • Students would choose their answer on their phone

Twitter/X
Twitter is a social media platform that allows users to post text, images, videos, gifs, links, and even polls. Users can interact with posts by responding with comments or by re-posting.

In my geometry class:
X would simply be used as a forum for students to interact with each other or myself outside of class. They could ask questions, offer help, or post relevant memes, gifs, or videos for the class. 
  • At the beginning of the school year, students will split into small groups in which each group will come up with a class hashtag.
  • Using Kahoot, each student will vote for their favorite hashtag  to be used for the remainder of the year

Challenges
  • I will have a difficult time staying up to date on new technology. With the emergence of AI, I will have to learn how to use new resources and tools before each school year.

  • I may hit road blocks when it comes to user interface. Simple tasks like displaying my screen for the class or connecting my computer to a Bluetooth device could cut into class time. Thankfully, UI is becoming more intuitive and stream-lined each year.

  • I may need to adjust the resources and tools I use depending on the class or the student. What may work for one class, or student, may not work for another.
