-  Search for signal words
- Search for words in bold or italics
- Stop reading when you found your answer

Looking for specific information.

Detailed reading

- Read the whole text
- Underline important signal words
- Underline the most important sentence in every paragraph

You are trying to fully comprehend the text

Read the situations. Which strategy are you using?

Situation 1: 

It's 7am and the newspaper just arrived. You want to check the latest news before going to school.

Situation 2: 

You are writing a paper for Biology about climate change. On the internet you have found a suitable article. You want to find out if the article could be used as a source for your paper.

Situation 3: 

You have a history test tomorrow. You are reading your history textbook. 

Situation 4:

You want to visit the Efteling but want to know the entrance fee. You visit the website of the theme park.
