Unit 25 Understanding perspectives on childhood in society

In the last class

• We started to look at the definitions of childhood and society 
• Today we will continue on to the next part of Task 1

• Compare perspectives from various cultures

Denmark 

• Children typically start daycare at 9 months old, and by age 3, nearly all children attend public kindergartens. 
• Focus on social skills, free play, and outdoor activities.
  
• Formal schooling starts age 6, with a focus on problem-solving and group work over memorisation and formal tests

• The concept of "hygge"- emphasises cosiness, security, and spending time with loved ones
• It is an important part of Danish culture and contributes to a nurturing environment for children

Group work

1. Each group will be given a culture to research
2. 15 minutes to research the culture
3. Record a minimum of 3 points on paper
   
4. Nominate a group member to give feedback
   
5. 3 minutes for each group to feedback
   
6. Information will be shared with the class

Note at least 3 points about your allocated culture
