§2.3 Fractions

Today we do §2.3

You will refresh some OLD knowledge and learn a few NEW things about them.

1/2 part of  10 you calculate like this:

Suppose this costs 10 euros.

What do you pay if you buy half of it?

Dividing 10 by 2 gives 5 euros.

And 1/4, how much does that cost you?

Dividing 10 by 4 gives   2  1/2  euros.

Example:

1/10 part of 250
First take 1/10 of 250.
So divide 250 by 10. Like this:
250:10 = 25

A little more difficult now:

3/5 part of 200
First calculate 1/5.

That is 200 : 5 = 40
Then do x 3, because you want to know 3/5 part.

So:

40 x 3 = 120
