The future
There are four different verb tenses that we can use to talk about the future
Present simple
Present continuous
To be going to
Will / shall
We are going to be discussing these in order of likelihood: From most to least likely!

Present simple
Present simple is used for fixed things like schedules:
Our plane
lands
at 10.40 AM.
The bike tour
doesn't start
in front of the park.

Present continuous
Present continuous is used for future arrangements and plans. These have been arranged and are most likely going to happen.
I
am cooking
dinner tonight.
James
is running
a marathon in April.
We
are visiting
our parents on Sunday.
Unfortunately, their top scorer
isn’t coming

there by bike?

You often see a date/day added in these sentences

To be going to
We use "to be going to" for 2 reasons!
Form: to be + going to + infinitive (hele werkwoord)
1) When we talk about plans or intentions (
before
the conversation has started)
I
am going to visit
my aunt next week.
We
’re not going to attend
a concert later this month.

the bus?
We
are going to take
a train to Italy this summer.

1) For a spontaneous decision during a conversation

2) For a prediction based on an opinion or uncertainty about the future
(often in combination with "don't think", "probably" or "possibly")
