You will do a formative test that will determine your level of English at this moment. Final goal is B2 ERK (Havo/VWO) (year 3).

  • Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialization.
  • Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.
  • Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

How do schools teach English in the Netherlands? What is expected of you as a teacher? What are your personal views on English in the classroom and how do you fit the expectations of teaching English? How does your school fit English in their curriculum? What books/lesson materials are used, how often and how long?

In communicative language teaching, communication is not only the goal but the method of teaching. The teacher in a communicative language classroom acts as a guide or facilitator and students engage in class activities to learn the language.

Assignment 6: 
Information gap
Information or language gap activity: 
an activity whereby each student is given a limited amount of information and therefore must work collaboratively with other classmates with their information in order to solve a puzzle, understand a phenomenon, or otherwise make meaning of an academic concept.

An information gap activity is similar to a game of Scrabble: There is a limited amount of information and resources available to solve a puzzle.
